Coronavirus - Working safely in Real Estate

Add your comments below.

The good news: 80% of coronavirus cases are mild and end with a full recovery in a few weeks.

Tips for Working Safely:

Work from home:

Meet customers/clients at the property: No need to ride together in the same vehicle. Your customer/client will appreciate this. According to a Queensland University study, if you travel in a car with someone infected with the flu, your chance of getting sick is up to 99.9%.

Ask sellers to vacate the property for showings: Most sellers already understand this recommendation.

If you are at risk due to age or health: Team up with a younger healthy colleague to handle the face to face side of your business.

Hand Sanitizer. Hard to find! You can make your own from Ethyl or Isopropyl alcohol, but these have also become scarce in many areas. Another alternative is to use high proof alcohol from your liquor store. Everclear is 190 proof vodka available in 48 states. Remember to maintain a high percent of alcohol, and note that many alcohols are already cut to 60 or 70%. Simply adding a SMALL amount of hand cream to the alcohol to increase viscosity may be the best approach. Look on the web for more detailed recipes.

Cell Phones: Remember to sanitize these as well. You will notice that many people wash their hands then pick up their cell phones.

Masks are scarce. Here is a link from a Hong Kong hospital on how to make your own. The goal is to stop droplets and aerosol from being breathed in. Especially important if you have to care for a sick family member or friend. Have you seen a simple and effective solution for this?

  2. As we anticipated, now they are saying YES to masks. There are many more sites now on how to make one. If you are fortunate, and have an N95 mask, you can reuse it if needed. Search under sanitizing by 160 degree oven. Or, if you leave it for 24-48 hours it's likely any virus will dissipate.
